Storm brings widespread traffic chaos and wind damage across Niagara region

Much of Ontario is reeling from the onslaught of a massive winter storm. The storm has created widespread traffic chaos and wind damage and brought parts of the region to a standstill.
Fort Erie was the epicentre of what’s being called a once-in-a-generation blizzard with a combination of bitterly cold weather, non-stop snowfall, and ferocious winds. With wind gusts of 120 kilometers an hour, a wind chill below minus 20, and up to 15 centimeters of snow in the afternoon.
Throughout the day, the storm knocked out power, with downed trees, water damage along Lake Erie, flooding in other areas, and roads closed throughout the town.
Fort Erie mayor Wayne Redekop says the storm is so bad hydro crews were having trouble working on damaged power lines. Redekop says to his knowledge there haven’t been any reports of injuries so far.
