Stoney Creek food bank forced to close due to building safety concerns

A food bank in Stoney Creek was unexpectedly forced to close its doors Wednesday after city officials said the structural integrity of the building had been “compromised.”

The Stoney Creek Community Food Bank located in the Saltfleet Community Centre will be temporarily shut down until further notice.

A structural engineer discovered cracks in the foundation of the building, the city said in an abrupt news conference this afternoon.

There are also concerns about the building shifting off of its foundation.

Katherine Isaac, president of the food bank, says they are looking for emergency accommodations.

The site has been helping people in need since 1991 and is one of the member agencies of Hamilton Food Share.
