State funeral scheduled for former PM Brian Mulroney

A state funeral will be held for the late former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, later this month.

PM Justin Trudeau announced the plans Tuesday, saying that “his funeral will provide an opportunity to honour his incredible legacy – one that will continue to shape our country for generations to come.”

The funeral is planned to be held on March 23 in Montréal, Quebec.

Mulroney served as PM during the ’80s and early ’90s and oversaw massive economic changes in Canada, including the negotiation of NAFTA, and the implementation of the Canadian Goods and Services Tax.

The federal government has set up a commemorative web page in honour of the late PM. Visitors can sign an online book of condolences and view a retrospective look back on Mulroney’s life.
