Staff at Niagara region’s public and Catholic school boards will be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine next week.

The District School Board of Niagara says there are as many as 4,000 staff members who are eligible to get a vaccine between Apr. 10 and Apr. 18.

“Vaccinating staff who work in schools means that another layer of safety and protection is there for students, staff, and their families,” said Warren Hoshizaki, DSBN Director of Education.

“We are once again thankful to NRPH and Niagara Health for recognizing the important role that these staff have in the community.”

This includes teachers and other staff who work in in school environments.

The Niagara Catholic District School Board confirmed to CHCH News that its staff members will also be eligible for a vaccine in the same time period.

No word from school boards in Hamilton or Halton about when staff members will also be eligible for vaccinations.

The City of Hamilton will be holding its weekly COVID-19 update Tuesday at 4 p.m.
