Stadium update

The contractor and government officials overseeing construction of the new Pan Am stadium in Hamilton were nowhere in sight at a meeting this morning. The group had been invited to provide an update to members of Hamilton’s Pan Am committee but some councillors are suggesting the 9 month delay may be too embarrassing for officials to explain.
Lloyd Ferguson is chair of Hamilton’s Pan Am committee, he is also a contractor who understands the complex nature of building a multi million dollar sports facility. Still he says nothing can justify the 9 month delay in finishing Tim Horton’s stadium the $145 million dollar home to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and site of this summer’s Pan Am soccer games.
With just 3 full months to go before the Ticat home opener, the stadium still has a lengthy list of uncompleted work. 139 non-compliant issues, things that were not built to spec, like an incorrectly sized room, two thousand deficiencies, minor problems like chipped paint or broken light fixtures and to top it off there are 3 liens against the building.
A lot of hurdles before the city can show off the new stadium at what they hope will be the official opening in May.
