Stabbing sends pregnant woman to hospital

A violent assault in central Hamilton Wednesday afternoon saw a pregnant woman stabbed and a man — believed to be her boyfriend taken into custody.

Video of the scene was taken by a neighbour. Police had to break down the apartment door on the south side of Main St. Witnesses say there was a struggle before the man was put in cuffs. The incident happened just before 5 pm. The victim, a young woman appeared at the convenience store across the street.  She told the clerk that she had been stabbed.

Police where in the area for almost two hours. The woman was taken to St. Josephs Healthcare with non-life threatening injuries. No word yet on the charges for the man in custody.
