(Update)

Elise Copps has the latest on a shocking story of an attack in Hamilton’s east end which has left residents in the neighbourhood stunned.

Neighbours say the attack started on Cumberland. That’s where a good samaritan picked up the young mother and her 2-year old daughter in his car.

He drove them down Eastbourne, trying to get away from the suspect.

But the attacker chased them down, got into the car, stabbing the mother, her baby and the man who tried to rescue them.

Witnesses say the suspect stumbled out of the vehicle and collapsed on the road with a self inflicted stab wound.

All three victims and their attacker were taken to hospital.

Family members say both mother and daughter are in stable condition.

Two year old Destiny was taken to McMaster Children’s Hospital. She’s been transferred to the intensive care unit.

Little information is known about the suspect. The baby’s father and grandmother both said they don’t know him.

Some neighbours suggest it may have been a domestic issue.

Either way, it’s shaken them.

“It’s awful.”, one said.

“It’s a little disturbing given that it was such a violent attack.” said another.

What neighbours describe as a quiet street turned quickly into a gruesome crime scene.

Police say they got the first 911 call from a Holton Street address about a disturbance at a residence. They got a second call about a reported stabbing on Eastbourne. One person was arrested at the scene this afternoon, but as of now, charges haven’t been laid.
