A new era begins today at the St. Jacobs’ Farmers Market with the opening of a brand new building to replace the one destroyed two years ago by fire.
The new 34,000 square foot building incorporates the barn-like character of the old building, but is 40 per cent larger.
The cause of the fire, which broke out early in the morning on Labour Day in 2013, was never determined.
Sheila Shantz, Director of Farmers Market Operations, says, “We’re so thankful to all of our vendors and customers for sticking with us as we’ve worked to rebuild and renew the Market. We won’t forget that support.”
Almost all of the original vendors are returning to the new building, along with a number of new businesses.
