A man in his mid-20’s was airlifted to hospital last night after being stabbed inside an apartment at 5 Louis Avenue in St.Catharines’ north end. The victim left a trail of blood in the hallway
before he collapsed. His alleged assailant was arrested minutes later.
Tricia McCullough and Lindsey Hiltz just sat down to dinner with their two children when they heard a scuffle and then a huge bang coming from the apartment next door. It was loud enough to scare the kids. They rushed the kids to the back bedroom. When Tricia opened the door to the hallway she heard a man yelling. “He was saying, help me, help me, he stabbed me. He was holding his side, he hit one wall, hit the other wall and then went through the doorway.”
The man who was stabbed ran down the hall, then collapsed at the elevator. He was rushed to St. Catharines general and then airlifted to Hamilton.
Outside, police arrested 22 year old Marcel Martel. Martel lived in the seventh floor unit at 5 Louis Avenue. Neighbours say the man who was stabbed was Martel’s best friend. Martel has now been charged with aggravated assault. The victim is in stable condition in hospital.
Tricia and Lindsey moved into the apartment just two weeks ago “We feel traumatized by it, our children are terrified, it’s disgusting.” They’re now looking for another place to live.
