St. Catharines man arrested in downtown assault

A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a violent assault in downtown St. Catharines.
Officers were called to the area of James St. and St. Paul St. for reports of an assault around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Police say a 61-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being struck with a weapon.
He was treated on scene before being transported to a local hospital.
Seth Woelke, of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
He has been held in custody and will attend a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Friday.
Police are asking any businesses in the downtown core with video surveillance of the incident to forward that video to the Real Time Operations Centre at RTOC@niagarapolice.ca.
