St. Catharines man arrested following standoff with police

A man has been arrested after an hours-long standoff in St. Catharines.
Police were called to a multi-unit complex the area of Queenston St. and Lorne St. for an armed/barricaded person just before noon on Wednesday.
A 21-year-old man had approached his neighbour about his mail being stolen. Police say the neighbour, a 27-year-old man, pulled out a gun.
Officers arrived on scene and evacuated the area.
Around 3:40 p.m. police executed a search warrant and made an arrest.
Joseph Carey, 27, of St. Catharines has been charged with theft from mail, pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon.
Carey also had unrelated warrants for his arrest.
