St. Catharines man air-lifted to hospital

On March 20 at around 6:15pm, the Niagara Regional Police Service, along with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the St. Catharines Fire Department responded to reports of a two car collision on Seventh Street Louth at Second Avenue Louth in the City of St. Catharines, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara.
An 89-year-old St. Catharines senior was driving his 1992 Honda Accord westbound on Second Avenue Louth. At the same time a 46-year-old St. Catharines man was driving his 1993 Saab northbound on Seventh Street Louth.
After coming to a stop, the Honda entered into the intersection and across the past of the Saab in an attempt to turn southbound.
The 46-year-old driver of the Saab was unable to avoid the Honda and the two vehicles came collided with each other in the intersection.
The collision resulted in the Honda being spun around in excess of 180 degrees and the Saab leaving the west edge of roadway and coming to rest in a farmers’ field.
The 89-year-old St. Catharines senior suffered life threatening injuries, and is stable at this time.
The 49-year-old St. Catharines man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the collision. Neither vehicle was carrying any passengers.
The names of the involved parties are not being released.
