St. Catharines fire department makes history with all-female crew on Christmas

History was made at the St. Catharines Fire Department over the holidays.

On Christmas Day, for the first time ever, an all-female crew staffed Platoon 3.

While the significance of the moment wasn’t lost on them, as CHCH reports, it was business as usual.

Out of the 140 firefighters in the St. Catharines Fire Department, five are women.

Modern firefighting has evolved from relying purely on brute strength to requiring a variety of skills and backgrounds. This shift has opened doors for more diversity in the field.
