Niagara police are investigating after a family in St. Catharines was awoken by an intruder inside their house.

It happened last Friday around 1:40 a.m. at a home on Logan St.

Police say a family of five woke up after hearing a noise in their home. One of the family members went to check out the sound and found a man stealing their belongings.

The stranger claimed he had a gun and fled the scene.

No one was hurt during the incident and a gun was not seen.

Officers arrived on scene and searched the area but could not find the suspect.

A few minutes later, a debit card that was stolen from the home was used at a convenience store in the area of Geneva St. and Queenston St.

On Sunday, officers went to a home near the store and arrested a 46-year-old man.

Jason Brewster, of St. Catharines, has been charged with break and enter and use of credit card within Canada.

Police searched Brewster’s and located property linked to the robbery.
