The father of the St. Catharines doctor who was shot several times in a New York city hospital says his son is now recovering after a successful 3 hour surgery.
Justin Timperio, 29, is one of six people injured after a former employee of Bronx-Lebanon hospital opened fire Friday killing one doctor.
Timperio’s father says his son was shot between six and nine times and suffered damage to his internal organs.
Timperio has been working at the hospital for about three years for the clinical component of his medical training. For the last year, he was working as a medical resident in the hospital.
Many of the other victims were also doctors including Dr. Tracy Sin-Yee Tam, a family medicine doctor, who was killed in the shooting.
The gunman has been identified as 45-year-old Henry Bello. Bello was a former doctor at Bronx-Lebanon but left in 2015 due to allegations of sexual harassment.
He returned last week with an assault rifle hidden under a lab coat and shot seven people, killing one woman, before killing himself.
