St. Catharines to consider mandatory face masks

St. Catharines is considering a mandatory face mask policy for public indoor spaces.

City council will hold a special meeting next week to discuss a temporary regulation requiring the use of masks or face coverings.

“This is not about limiting personal freedoms,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik in a statement.

“It’s about stopping the spread of COVID-19, and getting to stage 3 of the province’s reopening framework so we can open our economy even more, and more individuals can return to work.”

The meeting will be held on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Toronto has already passed a by-law requiring masks in public indoor settings.

That will go into effect next week.
