Special weather statement issued for Hamilton on New Year’s Day

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Hamilton, as freezing rain is expected.

Freezing rain is forecast to begin late Friday afternoon or early Friday evening and is expected to cover parts of southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe.

It should transition to rain or snow later Friday night.

A low pressure system moving north from Texas is bringing the precipitation.

Freezing rain warnings will likely be issued as the system moves closer.
