A special weather statement is in effect for the Golden Horseshoe Area with freezing rain expected on Wednesday.

Environment Canada says a mix of freezing rain, ice pellets and snow will be possible in the morning and early afternoon before changing to rain later in the day.

“At this time, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding the timing and amount of freezing rain,” states a public alert on the weather agency’s websites.

Residents are being warned that untreated surfaces such as roads, parking lots and walkways may become slippery.

Special weather statements are the least urgent type of alert and are issued to let people know that conditions are unusual and could cause concern.
