The Sound of Music Festival is the latest event to be cancelled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city of Burlington’s popular music event was set to take place this summer. The festival celebrates arts culture and live music. It has been a staple in the city since 1980.

In a statement, organizers said the cancelation of the event “will leave a hole in our great city this summer.”

“It is important that we do our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our community, volunteers, artists and partners has been the driving force in this difficult decision,” said organizers. “Our rich history will carry us through these challenging times. We look forward to seeing everyone in Spencer Smith Park next year.”

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward said she fully supports the decision and thanked organizers for putting the health of everyone first. We don’t know how long this crisis will last, but decisions need to be made now for activities months ahead,” said Ward. “There will be more tough decisions to make in the days and weeks to come. We will get through this, and we will be stronger, and when the time comes, we will celebrate together!”

Live on the Lake for 2020 has also been cancelled.

Residents are being asked to keep an eye on the festival’s social media accounts for information on ticket deferrals and refunds.
