A Kitchener woman has been sentenced to 8 and a half years behind bars for her part in the sexual abuse of a 7 year old Hamilton girl.

Sonya Lucas sat in court expressionless as Justice Tony Leitch told her the crimes she had committed were among the “most serious known to our society.” In June the 49-year-old pleaded guilty to recording and taking part in the sexual assault of a 7 year old girl. The girl had been advertised on Craigslist for sex by her mother’s boyfriend.

Rui Dasilva of Waterloo hired Lucas as an escort to accompany him to Hamilton. That’s where Lucas along with Dasilva and the mother’s boyfriend assaulted the girl. Dasilva was sentenced to eight years for his part.

Before delivering the sentence, the judge said that Lucas was less likely to be rehabilitated than Dasliva and that’s because Lucas is a repeat offender. Lucas became a convicted sex offender in 2004 for a case involving minors.

Lucas will serve 6 and a half years going forward, with credit for time she’s already served. Leitch also ordered she be banned from contact with anyone under 16 years old and banned from using the internet, except for banking or work purposes.

The ex-boyfriend of the mother, who can’t be named under a publication ban, has also pleaded guilty. He’s due back in court on January 26th.
