Some MP’s have mixed feelings about Keystone

American environmentalists are calling TransCanada’s offer to re-route the controversial Keystone XL pipeline a “major concession.”

But they also say they’ll settle for nothing short of the outright death of the project.

Meanwhile, a couple of opposition MP’s are going to Washington to let lawmakers know there are politicians in Canada who have mixed feelings about the over $7 billion pipeline.

New Democrats Megan Leslie and Claude Gravelle will meet with senators and congressmen who have an interest in hearing a different side of the story on Keystone.

The Harper government and TransCanada are trying to salvage a plan that will carry oilsands crude from Alberta to the lucrative gulf coast market.

The U.S. state department was expected to approve or reject the project by the end of this year.

But, it’s pushed the ruling into 2013, arguing that further review is needed.

And they say TransCanada’s decision to change the route won’t speed up the review process.
