Sloth offers Word Cup prediction

(Update)
With the World Cup final less than two days away, everyone — and we mean everyone — has an opinion who will win the match. When it comes to the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina, you could look to soccer analysts to find out who will win the big match on Sunday or, you can take a chance on something a little cuter.

Bob, the Toronto Zoo’s two-toed sloth, selected — ironically and very quickly — Germany to win the much anticipated rematch of the 1986 and 1990 World Cup final. But of all the animals to choose from at the zoo, why a sloth?

Brendan Linnell is a zoo keeper: “Playing one of the fastest games in the world, we liked the idea of having one of the slowest animals in the world making the prediction.”

Speaking of animals around the world, Bob joins a slew of creatures who weighed in on Sunday’s match. Shaheen the camel, elephants and even psychic golden retrievers have made their picks.

But Brendan says that Bob has been solid in his recent selections: “In the first round, he predicted six of the eight games, in the second round he was four for four and unfortunately in the third round he was unable to pick either.”

Still, that’s a respectable 71%. But, what has Bob done to make sure he’s 100% right on this pick?

Reporter Phil Perkins asks Bob: “”Have you spoken to Lionel Messi or Thomas Muller?”

As adorable as he is, Bob’s selection did come under question. Sloths are natives of South America — specifically Brazil — who aren’t in the final, Thus, could Bob have it out for Argentina?

Brendan: “It’s been random throughout the entire thing, we’ve tried a number of different flags, we’ll try the same flags both times just to make sure there isn’t a bias.”

Bob’s smiling now. But come Sunday night he might have to eat his words.
