Pet owners are still looking for answers after a St.Catharines veterinarian was suspended for abusing animals under his care. The College of Veterinarians of Ontario handed down a 10 month suspension against Dr.Mahavir Singh Rekhi but there is still no word if he will be charged criminally.

Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates met with the college this week and says he is shocked it hasn’t done more. Once Rekhi has completed his suspension and retraining he is legally allowed to practice again as early as January. The Skway Animal Hospital were Rekhi practised was closed today. Most of the signage from outside the hospital has been removed. Phone calls to the clinic were not returned but according to its voicemail, the clinic is closed indefinitely and will reopen soon. It suggests clients leave a message which is checked daily.

While the college has wrapped up its investigation, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is in the middle of its own. Kevin Strooband says he will be examining video that was given to the college in their investigation. If charges are laid Rekhi could face time behind bars and be banned from handling pets.
