Residents in St. Catharines are being reminded not to approach wild animals after another skunk tested positive for rabies in the city.

It’s the fifth such case this year. In 2021, a total of 14 animals tested positive for rabies in Niagara.

An animal with rabies may not display any symptoms, so all bites are scratches should be reported to Niagara Public Health, to ensure you’re not at risk.

The city says if you spot a wild animal acting abnormally, contact animal control services.

Public health is also reminding residents to ensure their pets are up-to-date with rabies vaccinations and prevent them from roaming off-leash unsupervised.
