The Hamilton Skating Club put on an impressive show earlier today. The event showcased the kids’ hard work over the past year, but also included performances from some special guests.

Guest dancers Paul Poirier and Piper Gilles took to the ice early in the program with a high-energy performance. The two placed 8th at the World Vhampionships which just took place last weekend in Japan.

They took home a silver at the Four Continents Championships this past January in Taiwan, and they placed fourth at this year’s Canadian Tire National Skating Champtionships.

But the kids were of course front and centre at the ice show. One group honoured the history of the Olympic games in Greece. A group of preschoolers even showed off their skills, dancing to that familiar former Hockey Night in Canada song.

While the event is a spectacle every year, Skating Club president Freda Le Donne told me this one was extra special.

“It’s a huge milestone to hit 75 years in a skating club, and so Hamilton is one of the oldest skating clubs in the region. So it’s just been a year of festivities and celebrations,” said Le Donne.

The skating club performed a second show Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
