Six retirement homes in our area that are owned by or connected to the Martino family have had their licences revoked.

The licensees of these homes “no longer meet the criteria to be licensed retirement home operators,” said the Registrar of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority in a statement.

The homes affected are Cathmar Manor, Dundas Retirement Place, Montgomery Retirement Home and Northview Seniors’ Residence in Hamilton as well as Greycliff Manor in Niagara Falls and Sheridan Lodge in Brantford.

CHCH News was contacted by residents of Cathmar Manor in the summer regarding a number of issues at the home.

The RHRA says it considers several factors, including compliance and financial issues, and how they affect the health and safety of residents.

“We understand that residents may have questions about how this will affect them going forward,” said Kathryn Chopp, Director, Communications and Stakeholder Relations.

“The Registrar has set the revocation date for June 1, 2021 to allow the licensee to manage an orderly transition and provide some housing certainty for residents during the challenging circumstances created by the pandemic.”
