The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says it has found that two Hamilton police officers committed no criminal offence in connection with the arrest and injury of a 26-year-old man in December of 2021.

In the morning hours of December 28, 2021, Hamilton police responded to a break and enter in progress at a home on Sherman Avenue South.

Officers saw a man attempting to flee the home in a vehicle. An officer blocked the vehicle and the man left on foot. He was arrest a short distance away.

The man was later taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured right clavicle.

The Director of the SIU, Joseph Martino, says the officers “conducted themselves lawfully in their engagement with the man, notwithstanding the injury he suffered in the process.”
