SIU probing death after standoff

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the death of a man in an east Hamilton townhouse following a standoff.

Dozens of police units were called to a complex on Woodman Dr north of Queenston just after 6 last night, where a distraught man had barricaded himself inside one of the units. Police initially made contact with him and started negotiations.

When they lost contact, members of the Emergency Response Unit went into the townhouse and found the man shot to death. He was 41 years old.
