SIU investigating QEW crash in Niagara-on-the-Lake

The Special Investigations Unit is probing the details surrounding a crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way after a 29-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say shortly after noon on Monday, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was operating radar on the QEW when he saw a westbound vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.
The officer began to follow the vehicle and as it exited the QEW at Glendale Ave, the driver lost control and entered the ditch.
The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The passenger was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
Five investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to investigate.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
