SIU investigating police shooting in Hamilton

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a police-involved shooting in Hamilton.

Hamilton Police responded to a call about a domestic incident near Cannon St. and Gage Ave. around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

There were two people sitting inside a parked car.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, there was an interaction as several officers approached the vehicle.

Two officers fired their weapons and a 42-year-old man was shot.

Police say the man was armed with a firearm.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates police interactions that end in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
