SIU investigating after man injured in interaction with Hamilton Police
Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating an incident involving Hamilton Police that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries.
Hamilton officers were near the Signature Vape Plus store on Queenston Rd. around 1 a.m. Thursday when they heard the sound of breaking glass.
According to an SIU news release, the officers saw two people go into the store and then flee in a vehicle.
When they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver crashed into the cruiser.
When the vehicle stopped, the people inside refused to get out. The officers broke the windows and pulled them out.
The driver and rear passenger were arrested. The front passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The SIU is asking anyone who may have information to contact them at 1-800-787-8529.
The Special Investigations Unit investigates any interaction involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
