The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a 20-year-old woman who fell from a highway overpass in Burlington.

Halton police received a call about a woman on the Dundas St. overpass at Highway 407 around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Investigators say after an interaction between officers and the women, she fell from the overpass to the highway below.

She was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“The nature of the interaction is something the SIU is currently examining as part of its investigation—what happened, when it happened and how it happened is something that we’re currently investigating and trying to determine,” said SIU spokesperson Jason Gennaro.

The SIU has assigned seven investigators to the case and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Investigators have not released the woman’s name but say she is from Mississauga.

The westbound lanes of Hwy. 407 at Hwy. 403 and the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 407 at the QEW were closed for several hours Monday evening but have since been reopened.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
