(Update)

An 18-year old cyclist in Welland was airlifted to Hamilton with serious injuries Wednesday night after being hit by a Jeep whose driver was trying to get away from police.

It happened on Thorold Road near Niagara Street. The driver initially stopped for police, but then took off hitting the cyclist and crashing into a pump at a gas station, narrowly missing a customer at the next pump.

Nathan Sinnaurea, the gas station owner, saw it develop in front of him: He failed to stop over there, he tried to escape, he was driving too fast, he cannot control and went in my gas station, he hit the pump and damage everything.”

38-year old Michael Brazeau of Welland is facing a slew of charges including impaired driving and breach of probation.
