SIU investigates deadly crash in Brampton

Ontario’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate a deadly crash in Brampton.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer attempted to pull a vehicle over around 2:45 a.m. Friday.

The unit says the driver fled from police and was later involved in a collision with another vehicle at Sandalwood Pkwy. East and Dixie Rd.

Two people were rushed to hospital where one person later died.

The SIU has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and the discharge of a firearm at a person.
