Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a Burlington man suffered serious injuries during an interaction with Halton police.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says Halton police received a call around 6 p.m. on Wednesday regarding a man in distress.

Officers entered a home on Millcroft Park Dr. and located a man holding an “edged weapon.”

The SIU says there was an interaction and an officer discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon ENfield, known as an ARWEN.

The man was taken into custody and brought to hospital with serious injuries.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
