SIU confirms police-involved fatality at Terminal 1 Toronto Pearson Airport, adjacent roads closed

Ontario’s top police watchdog is investigating after Peel Regional Police officers fatally shot a 30-year-old man at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport Thursday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says Peel Police responded shortly before 7 a.m. to a person in distress in an SUV at the departures level in Terminal 1.
Officers say the man had a firearm.
The SIU says three Peel police officers fired gunshots at the man.
He was taken to hospital, where he later died.
No officers were injured in the shooting and police say there is no known threat to public safety.
Due to the investigation outside the departures level the airport is rerouting passengers to enter and exit Terminal 1 through the arrivals area.
Videos posted to social media showed a heavy police presence outside the terminal, with cars backed up leading to the departures level.
Police let us exit cars and walk to the terminal now. Cars were still held. I think I saw over 30 police vehicles. Hearing one person confidently say what happened but who knows. #pearson pic.twitter.com/UiFzpuXNV6

Some airport delays are expected.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about the investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 800-787-8529 or the SIU online.
