SIU clears Niagara cop

The Special Investigations Unit has cleared a Niagara Regional Police officer in the death of a 46-year old Welland man who fell from the Main Street bridge in December. The man had climbed the girders and a police officer had called for him to come down. On his way down, the man lost his footing and fell onto the road. The SIU found the officer did his best to coax the man down and that the victim’s death was the result of his own actions.
