SIU clears Hamilton cop in shooting death of landlord after fatal tenant dispute

Ontario’s police watchdog released its report Monday night regarding a Hamilton landlord that shot and killed two of their tenants back in May.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the Hamilton police officer who shot and killed the 57-year-old landlord has been cleared.
Police responded to a shooting in the area of Jones Road and Barton Street East on May 27, where they found two victims dead upon arrival.

Investigators say the couple was trying to flee the home when they were fatally shot on the front lawn.
Officers say the initial dispute was over the state of the home.
The armed landlord then barricaded himself in the home for several hours and was pronounced dead at the scene after an exchange of gunfire with a police officer.
