Single-vehicle collision in Norfolk County kills one person

One person is dead following a single-vehicle collision in Norfolk County over the weekend, Ontario Provincial Police say.
The collision happened on Saturday around 5:30 a.m. in the area of Charlotteville Rd. 10, just outside of Simcoe.
Police say a vehicle was travelling along when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a tree.
The Norfolk County Fire Department as well as Norfolk County Paramedic Services responded and the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver’s identity has not been released pending the notification of next-of-kin.

OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said in a video on Twitter that a good Samaritan stopped and attempted life-saving measures before contacting police.
“We’re trying to put the pisces of the puzzle back together to determine exactly what happened here,” Sanchuk said.

The OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue to investigate and ask anyone in the area at the time with dash cam footage to submit it for review.
Police say Charlotteville Rd. 10 between Highway 3 and Charlotteville East Quarter Line Rd. was closed for over six hours while crews investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision.
