‘Significant rainfall’ expected in Hamilton, Halton Region, Brant County

A special weather statement is in effect for parts of Southern Ontario as “significant rainfall” is expected to hit the region.
Environment Canada says Hamilton, Halton Region, and Brant County will experience showers and thunderstorms starting late Tuesday evening and into Wednesday.
The weather event will bring rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimetres by early Thursday morning.
Some areas may be hit with higher amounts if they have multiple thunderstorms.
The rainfall is due to a cold front and a moisture-laden low pressure system that is traveling from the American Mid-west.
The weather agency says the special weather statements may be upgraded to rainfall warnings later today.
A warning is an urgent message that severe weather is either occurring or will occur.
Environment Canada usually issues warnings six to 24 hours in advance, although some severe weather like thunderstorms and tornadoes can happen rapidly, with less than a half hour’s notice.
