Shirley Elford passes away

Dr. Shirley Elford, a world renown Hamiltonian, passed away peacefully Thursday at the Juravinski Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was an internationally known artist and glassblower.

She earned an Honourary Doctorate from McMaster University in 2010.

Known for her one-of-a-kind pieces, she is more widely recognized as the designer and producer of the Juno, Canada’s music award.

In addition, her glassworks have been presented to Hamilton visitors ranging from late actor Christopher Reeve to Elton John and former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Other awards include the YWCA Women of Distinction and Hamilton’s Woman of the Year in the Arts.

A life celebration will be held after a private family funeral next week with details to follow.
