Niagara police have lifted the shelter-in-place and reopened roads following a recycling plant fire in Thorold.

Fire Chief Terry Dixon says crews responded shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a structure fire at the Environmental 360 Solutions warehouse located at 1786 Allanport Rd.

Residents surrounding the area were asked to shelter-in-place as winds continued to cause issues with drifting smoke.

Dixon says all employees safely evacuated the recycling plant and no injuries have been reported.

The fire burning cardboard and cans does not contain any hazardous materials, he said.
