(Video Updated) A surgeon who became obsessed with Shania Twain has promised to plead guilty to charges of stalking her.

Initially, Giovanni Palumbo, 51, had entered a not guilty plea relating to criminal harrassment charges.

The surprising turnaround came when he saw the star testifying via video link.

Palumbo had been ordered to stay at least 500 metres from the singer. But was accused of breaching that order in March, when he was spotted at the Air Canada Centre during the Junos.

Over the years he has visited Twain’s cottage in Muskoka, sent flowers and written her hundreds of letters. His wife says he even created a Shania shrine in his Ottawa home.
