Dozens of Binbrook area residents are upset that their wells have run dry and they blame nearby construction. Sewer line installation along Highway 56 has caused problems as far as two kilometres away and there’s no telling when or if water will come back to those wells.

The sewer and water line construction along Highway 56 will connect the village of Binbrook with the city’s main system but it’s affected a lot of area residents. Brenda Fletcher’s well that supplies water to her house is empty, “we’re really upset about it, our wells 150 years old, never gone dry before.”

The Fletcher’s have a second well on the property, that waters the fruit gardens, if that one dries up she doesn’t know what they’ll do.

Three weeks ago on Golf Club road, Karen Wilk’s well ran dry, “this farm has been in my family for 100 years, that well has served us for almost that long, and now it’s gone.”

Dozens of residents in the Fletcher and Golf road area have had large water tanks dropped off as sort of a band-aid solution, but they’ve been assured that their well water will eventually return but consultants haven’t said how long it will take.

Construction at Golf Club road and Highway 56 is on hold for now as crews work further down the road but will start up again in four months, causing further well water issues.
