Severe beating, shooting in downtown Hamilton

Detectives have been working overnight investigating a severe beating and shooting in downtown Hamilton.

After midnight, police were called to an apartment on King Street east near Walnut Street, where an unconscious man was found suffering from head trauma.

He was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. Police officers followed a blood trail from the King Street apartment to an alley behind Wellington Street where another man was found suffering from a gun shot wound to his leg. He was also taken to hospital.

Both men are expected to recover. Investigators believe the two men, who are not cooperating, injured each other. Police are not looking to arrest anyone else.
