Septic inspection fee dispute in Wainfleet

We have an update on the septic inspection fee dispute in Wainfleet.

Today angry home owner, David Misdorp, met with Mayor April Jeffs and two township officials who explained why Lakeshore area residents must have the inspection.

It will cost 1,100 home owners $114 each to have the mandatory inspection. Last year, Niagara Region agreed to cancel the water and sewer project for Wainfleet. The “Big Pipe” plan would have cost each homeowner more than $30,000.

The septic bed inspection was the alternative to the “Big pipe project.” Misdorp is questioning why he needs an inspection when he doesn’t draw from well water. He says he’s not as upset with the fee as he is with the potential cost if a problem is found with his septic system.

The lakeshore community has been under a boil water advisory for years, since e-coli bacteria was found in the groundwater.
