Sentencing in Gualtieri beating delayed
A man charged with beating a builder during the native protests in Caledonia more than four years ago was supposed to be sentenced today.
In September, Richard Smoke, 22, was found guilty of aggravated assault and break-and-enter, after Sam Gualtieri was attacked by three young men in 2007.
Gualtieri was building a home for his daughter on Stirling Heights when the protests broke out in the area.
He still faces a number of health problems because of the attack, including brain damage and trouble with speech and balance.
Smoke’s sentencing hearing resumes December 2nd.
