A Conservative senator says it’s time to ditch the beaver as Canada’s official emblem.
Nicole Eaton denounces the beaver as a 19th-century has-been and a dentally-defective rat.
Eaton wants it replaced by the polar bear, whom she praises as a majestic and powerful symbol of the far north.
Eaton does acknowledge the beaver’s involuntary role in founding Canada as the fashionable pelts that fuelled the fur trade.
But she says it’s now time for a change.
