Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will step down

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced today he will step down from his leadership role, leaving a power vacuum atop the party he has piloted for nearly 17 years — longer than any other party leader in the chamber’s history.

He will serve out the rest of his term as Senator, until 2027.
