The latest terror attack has raised questions as to whether an attack, so deadly could happen here in Canada.

Over 14 million visitors take in the Falls every year. It is the world’s most famous address and according to Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati security is a priority.

“When you have high profile locations with high amounts of people with a dense amount of people obviously that is the targets these type of people look for and we are well aware of that.”

He says his city has a plan in place in the event of a terror attack and it is always being reviewed and updated, especially after events like those in Manchester. Niagara parks police and Niagara regional police as well the OPP and RCMP practice their emergency preparedness plan annually.

In 2013 Niagara Falls was the target of a terror attack. Al-Qaeda backed terrorists planned to derail a train travelling from Toronto to New York city as it crossed the Niagara River, just a few kilometres from Niagara Falls. But Canadian and U.S. security forces managed to stop the attack and arrest two men in that case.
